The Project

The SAWE project is based on a three-year cycle of three intensive interactive summer schools. The first course will take place in September 2024 at the University of Milan (in English) and will be open to up to 30 students from Italy and other countries. A distance learning option will be available through the MSTeams platform, in addition to face-to-face learning.

Topics to be covered include EU animal law and veterinary medicine; Replacement: alternative methods in science; The European Union’s unique approach to animal welfare legislation and the European Green Deal; Animal ethics and animal research: The 3Rs and animal welfare legislation in Europe; Animal ethics and its relationship with animal law; Animal welfare as a dimension of sustainability.

The course will take place from 16 to 20 September 2024 and will be divided into five days of lectures, seminars, workshops and debates. It will be followed by a public round table, which will be streamed.

The school will begin with an ‘icebreaker’ event to allow participants to get to know each other and network.
