Mission

Animal Welfare and Ethics is an expanding field of study and research related to the evolving role of animals in human cultures and societies.

The SAWE Summer School offers a modern and interactive course designed to provide knowledge about animal welfare, tools for interpreting European animal welfare legislation and policies, and to address key emerging ethical issues, encouraging reflection and the development of critical thinking.

Starting from an interdisciplinary view of animal welfare and applied animal law, and including ethical review processes, it aims to stimulate interest in these issues and prepare participants to deal with them,

Specific intensive courses, seminars and workshops make up the Summer School programme, with the aim of providing accurate and up-to-date information and encouraging reflection and constructive discussion. The latter will be facilitated by bringing together participants from different contexts, cultural backgrounds and experiences, and even from different countries.

The course will be taught by lecturers and researchers from the Universities of Milan, Hanover and Newcastle, officials from the European Commission and guest lecturers.
